Our mission.

The Classic Independent Aviators from the 391 squadron are aiming to preserve military aviation heritage used during WW.1 and 2. During those days, when plastic and computers were still far away from being invented, military aviation was considered a matter of pioneering and perseverance. While flying was based on common sense and routine, contruction and maintenance mainly relied on wood and linnen.

When WorldWar 1 started, military aviation still was a un-important bussines but the high tempo pressure of war pushed it farther from early artillery observers towards an efficient weapon which could destroy enemy positions and aircraft.

In between WW.1 and 2, aviation developments delayed due to financial problems related to the Crisis in 1929 but when Nazi Germany stood up, a new arms race started resulting in an another explosion in aircraft development during WW.2.

The 391 Squadron wants to promote historical aviation and let the public breathe and touch the real spirit of aviation. Nowadays, aviation is mainly based on speed and travelling in luxury and most people have forgetten about the basics of real Tail Drag Flights.

The 391 Squadron promotes its activities through following activities :

1. By heading your way like airshows, veterans events or any other public event.

2. By inviting you in our hangar at Hoogeveen airport. We will be glad to guide you around in a 'Glen Miller' environment.

3. By taking flight lessons under guidence of an experienced flight instructor. It nicely pushes up adrenaline and you will be part of saving the Tail Dragging heritage as well.

We look forward meeting you during our future CIA operations ! Feel free to contact us about the 3 options to meet our squadron.
